mill's identity agency.png

Milly Clissett's Current Work is on an entirely digital platform, it's performance art that looks to 'commercialise' identity, make it a tangible object that can be moulded, bought and sold. She does this through Agency manager and creator- Mill, a bright, bubbly and animated character who runs the Agency, taking advantage of vulnerable people and selling them a fantasy of re-invention, change and likeability. This work plays with ideas of world-building and fantasy as it exists in a space similar to our own, but just outside of it.

This body of work maintains these ideas surrounding identity, not dissimilar to other strands of her practice such as 'Welcome to My Bedroom', this project is interested, however, more in these ideas of parody, spoof and humour as engagement tactics to open up a wider conversation surrounding human nature. Sitting somewhere between critiquing and celebrating the world it's commenting on- the Agency is embodying and mimicking the strategies used in popular culture. Creating an Agency that mirrors a functioning business, sitting in the world as a product- it's designed to be encountered by its audience- performed with, in a form of live participation art.
